To activate a skill during battle, just click on its icon next to yourpet's health bar; once activated it will remain active until its energy runs out or until it kills an enemy unit (at which point it will recharge back up over time). Some skills deal splash damage which affects all enemies within range while others only affect one target; either way always try aim skills at clusters of enemies whenever possible for extra damage!
